Our top 5 romantic movies for Valentines Day

Whether you’re looking forward to spending the day with your significant other, or you’re looking forward to spending the day looking after number one, we have a roundup of just some of the best romantic movies to watch this Valentine’s day:

1) The Bodyguard (1992)

Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner co-star in this well-known story of an internationally known singer who finds herself receiving threats from a persistent and obsessive stalker, forcing her to hire an ex-secret service bodyguard to protect her and her family. However, as he spends more time around her inner circle, he finds himself being drawn in further to her life.

2) A Walk to Remember (2002)

Nicholas Sparks has written many a novel depicting the highs and lows of love, and A Walk to Remember is just one of his most popular creations. We could have put any one of his stories on this list, but this one is a particular favourite of mine, telling the tale of high school students Landon and Jaime as they begin a whirlwind romance, despite the opinions of their peers and parents, until life starts to get in the way and threatens to jeopardize their relationship.

3) Pride and Prejudice (2005)

One of the worldā€™s most treasured love stories, based on the novel by Jane Austen, starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen, ā€˜Pride and Prejudiceā€™ tells the story of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy as they navigate their lives in 19th century England, in a game of first impressions and societal expectation.

4) Love, Simon (2018)

Based on the novel by Becky Albertalli, ā€˜Love, Simonā€™ tells the story of Simon, a closeted gay teen who begins emailing another closeted student at his high school, ā€˜Blueā€™, and has to find a way to coordinate his daily life at school with his friends and family, whilst hiding his newfound affections for Blue after being blackmailed by another student.

5) Isn’t it Romantic (2019)

If you’re going out for the day of love, a trip to the cinema might be the perfect excuse to go and see this brand new rom-com starring Rebel Wilson and Liam Hemsworth. Natalie (Wilson) has always been cynical when it comes to love, but after being knocked unconscious in an attempted robbery, she wakes up to find her whole world has turned into a romantic comedy, and to her dismay, sheā€™s the leading lady.

Honourable mention: Valentine’s Day (2010)

Featuring a whole host of Hollywood’s biggest names, including Bradley Cooper, Julia Roberts, Taylor Swift and Jamie Foxx, this film tells the story of a wide range of people celebrating Valentine’s day across New York City, and how some of their stories interlink, and how things don’t always go as planned. The perfect eponymous rom-com for February 14th.
