Review: The Lost City Adventure Golf

Everyone loves a bit of mini golf. It’s all the fun of the normal game, but just, well, mini.

The Lost City Adventure Golf is tucked away on the bottom floor of the The Cornerhouse. That tall building chock-a-block with loads of restaurants that’s up the road from Chunky Chicken.

They offer 18 holes and a bev to students for Ā£6 Monday to Thursdays. So when university is getting too much and all you want to do is channel your frustration onto a golf ball, this is the place to go.

It’s not as easy as just whacking a ball into a hole though.

The Lost City lures you in with tropical sound effects, spiky palm trees and a parrot statue as you enter the course. It sets the scene, but not in a way that’s overly cheesy. Just the right level of fun.

You have the option of two courses: The Sacred Skull or The Temple Trail. The former is for the expert mini-golfer, with bumps and lumps to make it tricker to land that shot. The Temple Trail is for those new to the game. We took a punt at the latter one for this review.

Stepping up to the play

The various holes themselves did provide enough variety in terms of difficulty. For 18 of them, there was a lot of variety in terms of how to strategise getting the ball in. We had experienced and newbies on our team and both sides were happy with how challenging it was. Plus, the newbies got the hole in easily enough that they didn’t get de-motivated. Score.

Gimmicks such as the Stone Face Rock were highlights of the course, as they made for a lot of laughs. The big snake that loomed over the course also made for a lot of Taylor Swift jokes. It would spice things up a bit if it had more interactive elements like that.

The soundtrack that played while we were playing gave us giggles too. Corny tunes like Indiana Jones and Harry Potter sometimes took the fantastical element of the course into the Disneyland realm. It was a little off-putting at times, so a mixture of the cheesy stuff with some chart music could work.

Overall, The Lost City Adventure Golf is worth swinging by at. It’s a brilliant example of a fun thing to do as a student without drinking. And if you do like drinking, the student deal can get you a beer afterwards.
