G Fuel Drink Handed Out in SU Can Expose You To Dangerous Chemicals

Students given free ‘energy formula’ on NTU’s campus last week were horrified to discover the health risks on the packaging.

G Fuel, owned by American company Gamma Labs, has issued this warning on their products: “WARNING: Consuming this product can expose you to chemicals including lead, which is known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm.”

Along with potential exposure to lead, the energy drinks also contain higher amounts of caffeine than both Red Bull and Monster.

Gamma Enterprises LLC recently faced a lawsuit where they settled against the Environmental Research Center.

G Fuel is marketed at gamers and young people, and is described by the company as a ‘natural energy drink formula…a clean and healthy alternative to sugar-loaded, canned energy drinks.’

CEO of G Fuel tweeted about the claims: I would like to explain what Prop 65 is and how it relates to G Fuel. I would like everyone to know that we make a great, healthy product.

“I’ve poured my heart and soul into the business.

“My kids and entire family drink G Fuel – I stand behind the product.”

When contacted for a comment, Nottingham Trent Student’s Union replied: “We understand that as part of a promotional stall Seed Marketing on behalf of Amazon Gaming offered a number of prizes, one of these being a G Fuel sachet (a ‘natural energy drink formula’) legally distributed in the UK.

“Winning students chose which prize they wanted.

“The sachet included the appropriate warnings as laid down in the State of California ruling and a full list of ingredients which enabled students to make an informed choice about the product.”
