Candidates for the Nottingham Trent Student Union elections were announced today, with manifestos being released to all Trent students.
There are four students running for Vice President Education, including the current VP Education. The role is responsible for improving the academic experience of Trent students, so we have compiled all the manifestos in one place to make sure you can all make the best decision for your future.
Afua Acheampong
Afua is the current Vice President Education, and is running for re-election for 2019/2020. Should she be elected, her main priorities would be:
- Continuing to create more study spaces across all campuses, making them more technologically advanced and modern
- Continuing her work to tackle to BME attainment gap at NTU to allow equal opportunities and success for all students
- Increasing student representation across the university by introducing an ‘International Student Network’
- Launching a hidden course costs campaign to make course costs more transparent and accessible to students to make sure they understand the true cost and value of their degree
- A campaign to reduce the number of paper submissions across NTU and increase our digital use
Gida Malafronte
Gida is running for VP Education for the first time. Should she be elected, her main aims would be:
- Transcription of lecture capture
- Increase the availability of third-year study spaces, laptops and printers
- Improve integration between courses with employability and CPD events
- Increase course related employability opportunities, developing partnerships
- Internationalising curriculums to raise student cultural and global awareness
- Improve timetable scheduling to benefit learning and activities
Takalani Madega
Takalani is a blogger and course representative who has acted in SU positions before but is running for VP Education for the first time. Should she be elected, her main aims would be:
- Help build student confidence when it comes to taking control of their own education
- Help raise awareness of the many options available to students facing extenuating circumstances
- Increase academic trips for students to help boost their job prospects
- Continue to help reduce the BME attainment gap at NTU
- Work alongside NTU Employability to help encourage work experience, internships, and placements
Thomas Robson
Thomas is running for VP Education for the first time. Should he be elected, his main aims in the role would be:
- Increasing student feedback on their courses
- Better dissertation advice
- More accessible academic English classes for native and non-native English speakers
- Equality of the schools so that the structure supports all students equally
- Looking at ways to close the attainment gap so that all students can get a good degree
- Improve students university experience so you leave ‘happy and employable’
Voting opens for all NTSU roles on Friday 22 March at 5 pm.
