Introducing your VP Postgraduate election candidates

Candidates for the Nottingham Trent Student Union elections were announced today, with manifestos being released to all Trent students.

There are five candidates for Vice President Postgraduate, all of whom are new nominees and haven’t acted in the role before. It’s important to make the right decisions on who you want to represent you in the upcoming academic year, so we’ve compiled all the main points from each candidates manifesto in one easy post.

Owoyemi Bankole Odukale

Owoyemi is a current Postgraduate student and academic rep who is running for VP Postgraduate for the first time. Should he be elected, his aims would be:

  • Introducing solutions such as parental support services for parents
  • Organising social events and conferences across campus to promote networking among students
  • Provide targeted information on services and opportunities available to Postgraduate students
  • Operate an open door policy where ideas are welcomed and developed.

Emon Rahman

Emon is running for VP Postgraduate for the first time. Should he be elected, his main aims would be:

  • Create more opportunities like the Doctorate festival so Postgraduate students can converse and engage with people from industry
  • Help Postgraduate students in finding housing that is compatible with their course duration
  • Make sure PGT and PGR students in Brackenhurst and Confetti campuses aren’t neglected by holding termly meetings with them.
  • Help international students integrate by promoting the Global Lounge and its events to home students so that is assists interaction.
  • Work to create more 24 hour study spaces in Clifton library for Postgraduate study

Syed Fahad Kamal

Syed is running for VP Postgraduate for the first time after being on three society committees as an undergraduate. Should he be elected, his main aims would be:

  • Wellbeing and support groups for postgrads to make the transition into postgrad life easier
  • Better accessibility of NTSU and NTU resources to PG students
  • More library resources and work space
  • More contact hours for Full-Time Masters students
  • Lecture capture across all courses
  • Easing it for PG Research students to work with supervisors outside their departments
  • More part-time work and placement opportunities for postgrads

Emma Bullin

Emma is a mature student who is running for VP Postgraduate for the first time. Should she be elected, her aims would include:

  • Masters dissertation preparation classes
  • Writing groups and study buddy schemes

Simon Chapman

Simon is a Confetti student running for VP Postgraduate for the first time. Should he be elected, his aims would include:

  • Improve the offering of social events for Postgraduate and PhD students.
  • Attain more support for Postgraduate Students before arrival at University, so that their needs can be accommodated.
  • Ensure Marking and Assessment is fairer, by working with lecturers to improve clarity over expectations for work, and to attempt to get students more detailed assessment feedback.
  • Work to develop the Postgraduate Academic Representative structure

Voting for all NTSU roles will open on 22 March at 5pm.
