NTSU postpone executive officer elections until next term

Nottingham Trent University’s students’ union (NTSU) has announced that their ongoing executive officer elections have been suspended.

The elections, whose digital campaigning only officially began yesterday (March 16), have been postponed until a later date next term due to current coronavirus fears.

The students’ union has also confirmed that the ongoing society and sports committee elections will still go ahead as planned, with voting opening on Friday 20 March.

A representative from the students’ union said: “As part of our COVID19 response, we are postponing our main elections for our Officer Team until term 3.”

“Voting was originally scheduled to open on Friday 20th March.”

“We will announce new dates for our officer elections in the coming weeks,” they added.

Current VP postgraduate nominee Amy Chappell has supported this change.

“I agree with this decision; our main priority is our education and the wellbeing of our students.”

“We have to look after each other, now more than ever,” she added.

This decision comes after NTU decided to substitute their face-to-face classes with online learning.
