NTU’s global week returns for its seventh year

From 25 February to 1 March, Nottingham Trent will be connecting and celebrating all the different cultures of the NTU community.

After being held for the first time in 2013, Global Week has become an annual celebration of all the cultures that make up the Nottingham Trent community.

Each day of Global Week will host a new regional theme: Asia and the Pacific, Africa, the UK and Europe, The Middle East, and the Americas and the Caribbean.

The centrepiece of the week will be the Cultural Fairs that will be held at all three campuses: City, Clifton and Brackenhurst.

Each fair will host stalls ‘representing different cultures, societies, clubs, NTU departments and external exhibitors’.

Eze Emokpae, 20, wants to go so she can try some new food, and said: “Hopefully there’ll be some food from cultures I’ve never experienced before, so I’m going to go down and have a look around to see what I can find.

“What student doesn’t love free food?”

Alongside learning about other cultures, students can take part in activities, try food, play games, and take part in quizzes.

There are Bollywood dance classes, movie nights, a produce market, and open lectures about international issues.

The student union gym is also hosting events, with play for fun session and classes on global activities held throughout the week.

Zach Harrison, 19, is excited to visit the event for the first time. He said: “I think it’s really cool how the uni celebrates stuff like this.

“It’s really great getting to find out more about all the cultures that come here, so I’m going to try and go every day.”

Every student who attends will be automatically entered into a competition to win a £200 travel voucher.

The Cultural Fairs will be held in Newton Central court on City Campus, in Pavilion on Clifton Campus and in the Student Lounge on Brackenhurst Campus.
