Must-see hot spots for Freshers

A new, unfamiliar city would be daunting to anyone – but combined with the challenge of moving away from home can make you become overwhelmed, and shy away from exploring.

As a fresher this is exactly what not to do. The first few weeks should be filled with as many new experiences as possible and this list suggests just some of our must-see locations for your first couple of months:

The Corner House

Undoubtedly the hub of Nottingham social life, home to nine popular chain restaurants including student favourites Nandos and Revolution. Time can also be spent playing a round or two of mini golf in Nottinghamā€™s beloved Lost City Adventure Golf, watching the latest film at the cinema or even splashing your student loan in the casino. Everything you need to break the ice with your flatmates is under one roof here.

Luvyababes

Initially, you may question what this shop sells with such a bizarre name, but this is Nottinghamā€™s infamous fancy dress shop. Students of Nottingham Trent are all too familiar with the contents of this store. Freshers week is filled with themed nights and events so this is without question one of the first places you should familiarise yourself with.

Wollaton Park

Freshers week can be overwhelming at points and Wollaton Park just outside the city centre provides the perfect escape. It is home to Wollaton Hall, which famously played home to Batman in the Dark Knight Rises in 2011. You can take a tour of the Hall itself, or simply tour the grounds and stop for a picnic.

Bunk

This is a personal favourite of mine, notorious among students for its half-price house cocktails and wings every day from five till ten. Itā€™s the perfect location for a chilled evening, getting to know your new flatmates.

Ocean

As a student of Nottingham Trent you will quickly become acquainted with infamous Ocean Wednesdays. Fancy dress, Vkā€™s, cheesy music and a bar crawl through Nottinghamā€™s best student bars means Ocean may not be everyoneā€™s cup of tea.Ā  My advice is don’t knock it until you have tried it… I know my first year wouldnā€™t have been the same without a few dips in the Ocean!

Have you checked out any of these places yet?Ā
