Preview: NTU Drama Society Presents – The Duchess of Malfi

John Webster’s fourteenth-century tale of murder, deciet and political intrigue is coming to the SU.

A young, recently widowed Duchess in the Italian city of Malfi causes an uproar as she disobeys her scheming noble brothers when she finds love again with the steward Antonio.

Quickly a Game of Thrones esque tale of love, death and court-based drama is brought to life in this dark, sinsiter period piece.

Grace Jastrezebski stars as the titular Duchess, opposite her love interest Antonio, played by Kyran Wood. Her villainous siblings The Cardinal and Ferdinand are portrayed by Sam Harvey and Hugh Murray.

Alice Spall also leads the cast with her gender swapped take on the spy Balosa.

Three-year Drama Society veterans and first-time directors, Tadgh Tobin and Tom Pluse said: “It’s the best performance we have seen on stage in the three years – that’s including the ones we have starred in!”

The show will be performed on Sunday March 31 and Monday April 1 at 19.00, in the City Campus SU.

Tickets are available for £7 and can be purchased at the door or online through the NTSU website
