Having found out about Movers’ first food collaboration through an Instagram post I was unsure of what to expect. I’d been to Movers in the day to enjoy the different DJs but never at night and I had yet to try the famous PizzaDog Working Man’s Kitchen although it had been on my radar since I moved to Notts. When me and my friend entered we were pleasantly surprised by the warm atmosphere bathed in red lighting. The warmth from the light was certainly a welcoming reprieve from the cold chill outside.
Once you had escaped the cold you were greeted by a busy front room, with the Working Man Kitchen chef’s station by the bar and facing the window was the DJ playing from vinyls. Adding to the warm inviting atmosphere. The event was busy about an hour in when we arrived but we managed to get a seat on the stools facing some of the posters. Although later in the night people did begin to fill out the seats in the back room, slightly further from the DJ.
We both ordered the PizzaDog as the deal of the night was that it was £5, and paired it with a boozy drink. Then we settled in surrounded by the low lights and hum of conversation.
The food came quickly and was a complete delight. Both of us had been unsure of what to expect, as we knew we liked all the components – pizza and hot dogs – but were unsure about the combination. Surprisingly it is more like a hot dog, as the soft pillowy pizza dough acting as the bun and rich tomato sauce and crispy fried onion coating the sausage.
When we had devoured our food, we were able to stay at our table just taking in the atmosphere and the music as we sipped on our ciders.
Overall, as a way to spice up a weeknight I will definitely be on the look out for Movers next food cross over.
