Avocafé: 10 years in the making.

In December 2025, Avocafé will celebrate its 10-year anniversary.

Jordana Chin, the founder and head chef of Avocafé, began her business after she graduated from the University of Nottingham with a degree in Nutrition.

At the beginning of her journey, she set up a website to take orders, which she made and delivered herself.

On her website, she wrote about buying her own bike to deliver meals as she has a huge ethos for sustainability.

Although the café has now overtaken the delivery service side of the business, it remains a huge part of the brand, even being the inspiration for the logo.

When asked about why she set the business up, Jordana said: “I wanted to make an impact, help others, and build a hub within the community.”

Avocafé is unlike any other in Lenton, it has gone out of its way to find sustainable, ethical, and eco-friendly ways of packaging, alongside making its menu as healthy and as nutritional as possible.

Jordana said that her business aimed to offer something new for people, adding: “That’s why we keep evolving, reacting to what people like or don’t like.”

The business was the first healthy food service in Nottingham, and even now, 10 years late,r they are still receiving five-star reviews.

One of the challenges is due to the café being in a predominantly student area, reaching out to potential new customers each year can be hard. Jordana explained that it gets busy during term time when students come in to socialise and study, but during breaks and holidays it can become quiet. Events such as a free Sunday brunch for the students at Simpsons Halls was set up last month, along with a pumpkin carving session for customers and the Zimboree mental health fundraiser have been held at the café to attract new customers.

Avocafé keeps its menu full of healthy dishes such as the protein-packed rice bowl, sourdough toast with many toppings to choose from and a range of smoothies.

They also offer coffee, teas, and an assortment of baked treats such as flapjacks and cakes.

In some exciting news, the café is launching its very own brand of coffee beans in mid-November 2025.

After working with a local and sustainable roaster, Jordana is excited to announce that her café’s very own brand of coffee bean is coming to the café.

She worked closely with her roaster to source, taste and test the beans, to see what is best for her and her customers.

So why not go and see for yourself!
