I know that this is going to make me sound like such a tourist but the first place I go for a bite to eat when abroad is McDonalds.
I enjoy seeing how each menu differs from the UK, and I know that a lot of you do the same.
Well, I have some good news for you. From this week, you can try Maccies from around the world without ever getting on a plane.
- From Canada, maple BBQ and double bacon quarter pounder.
- Australia, pineapple McSpicy.
- Japan, garlic and black pepper McNuggets with garlic and soy mayo, and Sakura Sprite.
- Poland, sour cream and black pepper McShaker fries.
- United Arab Emirates, mac and cheese triangles.
- Indonesia, Choco caramel pie.
- Malaysia, chocolate or caramel pretzel McFlurry.
But before you waste your money, I’ve decided to try some of the new menu items for you and rate them out of ten to see if they’re worth all the hype.
Pineapple McSpicy from Australia
Just like pineapple on pizza, you’re either going to love this burger or think that it should be thrown into the sun. I personally think it works. The sweetness of the pineapple really balances out the spicy kick of the chicken. However, the burger was hard to eat; the chicken kept sliding off the pineapple and out of the bun entirely. Because of these reasons, I’m giving the Pineapple McSpicy a 7/10.

Garlic and Black Pepper McNuggets with Garlic Soy Mayo from Japan
When I opened the box, I was excited. I could see all the seasoning in the batter, so I was expecting them to be packed with flavour, but they were bland. I couldn’t tell the difference between these and the original McNuggets. However, they were a lot crispier, closer to southern fried chicken, and the soy garlic mayo tasted amazing. I’m giving the Garlic and Black Pepper McNuggets a 6/10.

Mac and Cheese Triangles from United Arab Emirates
These things are so addictive. They are super cheesy and go great with ketchup. I personally think that I could destroy about fifty of these after a night out. I’m giving the Mac and Cheese Triangles a 8/10.

Sour Cream and Black Pepper McShaker Fries from Poland
Shaking the fries in the bag with seasoning was enjoyable but I found that the taste was odd. The black pepper was overpowering, and the sour cream had a chemical aftertaste. Since I couldn’t finish these, I’m giving the McShaker fries a 2/10.

Chocolate Caramel Pie from Indonesia
I feel like the pies at McDonald’s are so hit or miss; they are either boiling hot or super cold. Unfortunately, mine was cold. Despite this, it was tasty and reminded me of chocolate lava cake. Perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth. I’m giving the Chocolate Carmel Pie a 6/10.

Sakura Sprite from Japan
You know how the saying goes, ‘save the best till last’. The Sakura Sprite was tasty and refreshing. The sweetness of the cherry blossom syrup pairs well with the sourness of the lemon and the lime in the sprite. It’s a shame that this drink was released so late in the year because it is the perfect summer drink. I’m giving the Sakura Sprite a 9/10.

Overall
I think some of the new menu items are worth the hype and others are not.
