Best Gal Pals in film and TV

Geena Davis’ (one half of Thelma and Louise – the most iconic gal pals ever to be shown on film) celebrates her 65th birthday today, so here is a list of the best gal pals in film and TV…

Thelma and Louise in Thelma and Louise

On a road trip filled with complications – including a rapist and murder – Thelma and Lousie are always there for each other no matter what. They provide each other with support and trust, whilst also standing up for the rights of women everywhere.

Rachel and Monica in Friends

These two best friends have supported each other through every important moment of each other’s lives since high school – through all of the ups and downs – showing unwavering support and love no matter what.

Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda in Sex and the City

These friends have overcome all possible pain in regard to relationships side by side. Their friendship – at times – became the only good thing in each other’s lives.

They lifted each other up through all the bad moments of their lives and always had each other’s backs.

Despite some arguments, they always came back to each other because a love between friends is far greater than any love that they could find with a man.

Meredith and Cristina in Greys Anatomy

These two best friends quickly became iconic, calling each other “my person”.

These “twisted sisters” formed one of the most important foundations of Greys Anatomy as their competitiveness – whilst also managing to be as close as ever before – made them into the surgeons. Despite many arguments, they have managed to come through everything unscathed and not even distance (with Cristina being in Scotland) can stop these two from being the best of friends.

Penny, Bernadette and Amy in The Big Bang Theory

Over girls’ nights of wine or dancing, these gal pals help each other become the best versions of themselves whilst supporting each other on their journeys for love.

Blair and Serena in Gossip Girl

These girls are each other’s biggest competition, but also biggest supporters as they think of each other as sisters and love each other no matter the mistakes they both make, doing anything in their power to protect each other. This is a tough ordeal in Blair’s case as Serena has made some mistakes that can never be forgotten!

Patsy and Edina in Absolutely Fabulous

These best friends show that you are never too old to have fun and make a fool of yourself!

Lorelai and Rory in Gilmore Girls

Lorelai and Rory are best friends first and mother and daughter second, supporting and caring for each other through everything that life throws their way. The pair have one huge argument after Rory drops out of Yale, not talking to each other for a while, but even that cannot destroy the love that they have for each other!

Michele and Romy in Michele and Romy’s High School Reunion

“Friends that create fake businesses together stay together” is the motto of this film, as these extremely superficial best friends pretend that they created a business selling post-it notes in order to make their lives seem more impressive than they actually are.

Lillian and her Bridesmaids in Bridesmaids

Lillian and Annie have always “got each other” ever since they met, and this does not change throughout the film. Their friendship, however, does evolve as Lillian’s other bridesmaids Rita, Becca, Megan and Helen become friends with the first two after sharing some memorable experiences that bonded them for life.

There are so many gal pals for best friends to look up to, but is there any of your favourites we have missed out? Feel free to leave a message in the comments below!
