Five lockdown-friendly DIY beauty treatments straight from your kitchen

After a long day of working from home, taking time to pamper yourself and wind down is more than necessary.

With that in mind, now is the perfect time to find a new hobby in DIY beauty treatments using products that you find in your cupboards.

Here are five easy ways you can pretend your bathroom is a relaxing spa and feel rejuvenated at home:

  1. A face mask to face the day

Ingredients: honey & avocado

Avocado’s such a popular fruit that you’re more than likely to have one at home.

Mash it up with a tablespoon of honey together until its a smooth consistency and then apply an even layer all over your face.

You are free to go and read a magazine or watch a Friends episode for 20 minutes before washing off with warm water.

2. Depuff those under-eye bags

Say goodbye to dark undereyes with these at home hacks

Ingredients: choose from potato, milk, cucumber, teabags or egg whites

Working long hours at home and not getting enough sleep can leave us looking a tad worse for wear.

Whilst you would normally add a bit more concealer, now is the perfect opportunity to tackle those eye bags.

Place slices of either potato or cucumber over your closed eyes and take 20 minutes out whilst you depuff and listen to a podcast.

Alternatively, soaking cotton pads in milk will also do the trick if you are suffering from heavy puffed eyes, as the milk will help your eyes in water retention and it would also cool them off.

Warm teabags are also a classic remedy; simply steep the bag in hot water for a few minute before letting cool and resting over your eyes.

You can also stiffly beat a few egg whites and apply it around your eyes with a brush. This will make the area around and under the eye feel tighter and look less puffy. Leave the whites on for 20 minutes and then rinse your face in cold water to reveal bright undereyes.

3. Homemade coffee body scrub

Coffee grounds are great natural exfoliants

Ingredients: ground coffee, sugar, coconut oil & vanilla extract

Natural exfoliators are great for tackling dry and dead skin and when it is so easy to make at home it’s hard to refuse.

Mix together 1/2 cup of fresh ground coffee, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup coconut oil, and 1 tsp vanilla extract. Simply then use where you feel needs exfoliating and voilĆ !

The grounds will work gently to remove dead skin cells, boost circulation and leave you with silky-smooth skin. This scrub can be used to remove fake tan as well.

4. A salon-inspired hair mask

Ingredients: apple cider vinegar or coconut oil & avocado

Staying indoors is the ideal opportunity to hold back on using heat and styling tools on your hair, presenting the perfect oppertunity to deep condition your locks.

For a simple hack, applying apple cider vinegar to your hair can help fight dryness and leave your locks feeling luscious and shiny.

Mix equal parts vinegar to water, and let sit on your hair for a few minutes after shampoo and conditioning before rinsing out and styling as normal.

If you are feeling a bit more adventurous, mix two tablespoons of mashed avocado with two tablespoons of coconut oil and mix well. Comb the mixture through your hair and leave in for up to an hour. Rinse out with shampoo and finish with your favorite conditioner.
