Top five gigs to attend in Nottingham this February

Nottingham’s impressive array of music venues brings many performers to the city, here are some of the stand-out performers coming this month:

Self Esteem

Rebecca Lucy Taylor, known as Self Esteem, is a singer-songwriter from England who will be performing at Rock City on Friday, February 24.

The inspiration for her stage name stemmed from the 36-year-old’s confidence when in her twenties.

Her music is uplifting but in a rock-star way, as you can see she puts a lot of emotion in, most likely using it as a method to reflect on her life experiences.

Self Esteem is a highly recommended listen, with her appearance on BBC Radio One’s Live Lounge particularly worth a watch.

Gojira

Fans of the French heavy metal band Gojira will be able to see them in action at Nottinghamā€™s Motorpoint Arena on Tuesday, February 21.

The band was formed in 1996 and was originally called Godzilla before being legally compelled to change its name in 2001.

Members of the band include guitarist Joe Duplantier, drummer Mario Duplantier, guitarist Christian Andreu and bass guitarist Jean-Michel Labadie.

Mogwai

Scottish rock band Mogwai will also be in Nottingham performing at the palace of rock itself, Rock City, on Tuesday, February 14.

If you and your partner prefer rock music then this might be the perfect gig to attend on Valentineā€™s Day.

Mogwai first formed in 1995 and won the NME award for ‘Live Act of the Year’ back in 2000.

Current members of the band include Stuart Braithwaite, Dominic Aitchison, Martin Bulloch and Barry Burns.

A fun fact about the origin of their band’s name is that it actually was inspired by the name of one of the creatures in the film Gremlins.

Belinda Carlisle

Belinda Carlisle is an American singer and was the lead vocalist for the all-female rock band the Go-Goā€™s.

The Go-Goā€™s formed in 1978 and saw a seven-year spell of success before breaking up in 1985.

Belinda was one of the most popular members and pursued a solo career in which her first album, ‘Heaven on Earth‘, smashed records two years after the rock group broke up.

She will be performing at the Theatre Royal & Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham on Saturday, February 11.

You Me At Six

February seems to be the month of rock music.

On Thursday, February 9 you can watch You Me At Six at the Motorpoint Arena.

You Me At Six was formed in Weybridge, Surrey back in 2004.

The band members include lead singer Josh Franceschi, guitarists Max Helyer and Chris Miller, bassist Matt Barnes and drummer Daniel Flint.

They have just released a new album this year called ‘Truth Decay’.
