NTU threatens disciplinary action against students breaking coronavirus guidelines

Students who break coronavirus guidelines will face disciplinary action from Nottingham Trent University (NTU).

It comes less than a month before the beginning of Freshers activities.

The university is preparing for the mass return on students in late September.

Several changes have already been made to the campus, including hand sanitiser stations in every building, one-way systems and sensor-controlled taps.

Nottingham Trent University has not yet announced whether they will enforce any restrictions on who students interact with.

They have, though, warned students that disciplinary action will be taken against those guilty of breaking rules.

A spokesperson for the university said: “NTU will continue to follow all Government guidance in relation to social distancing, and full details will be communicated to students before they arrive on campus in late September.

“Under our Student Code of Behaviour, all students will be given clear expectations regarding the latest guidance and measures to limit the spread of coronavirus and will know they have committed to these.

“If they are found to have not followed these then there will be consequences under our disciplinary processes.”

Other universities have taken more drastic action than NTU.

Bristol University has banned freshers from hosting parties or having overnight visitors. Students could face fines as high as Ā£800 if they are found to be guilty of breaking the guidelines.

A Department for Education spokeswoman said: “We encourage universities to find innovative ways of helping students to socialise.”

As well as our website, Platform has a Facebook page and a Twitter feed.

For updates on what is going on from within the campus, there’s also a Facebook group. A service that allows you access to news from both us and fellow students.
