Sexual Violence Awareness Week at NTU aims to show solidarity with students

Between Monday 3 February and Sunday 9 February, Nottingham Trent University (NTU) and NTU’s students’ union are partnering up to promote awareness for sexual violence.

This year’s annual Sexual Violence Awareness Week is the third time Nottingham Trent have organised this event.

The event will span over all three campuses where the Students’ Union executives will be handing out free wristbands to show your support, conducting quizzes and organising a raffle.

The purpose of the week is to raise awareness that sexual violence does happen and to show solidarity with any students who may have experienced it.

Liv Broad, the Vice President for Community and Welfare at NTSU told us about the importance of the event.

“We want our students to know that we support survivors, we have services that will offer support and guidance and that we are actively trying to prevent sexual violence from occurring on our campus,” she said.

There will also be a panel at the NTSU loft on Thursday 6 February from 3pm, where members of Nottinghamshire Police, Nottingham Sexual Violence Support Service, and the Topaz Centre will come and talk about what actually happens when you report sexual violence to the police in Nottingham.

This event is also coinciding with the national Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence awareness week, which you can find out about here.

You can follow the week as it progresses on the NTSU social media here.
