NET to help NTU freshers travel for just 60p a day

Nottingham Express Transit (NET), Nottingham’s answer to a greener and more affordable way to travel around the city, is launching a new campaign for students during this year’s Freshers’ Week.

Finding your way around Nottingham’s city centre and surrounding areas may initially seem daunting. However, with trams running every seven minutes, seven days a week and 364 days a year, students will find comfort in knowing that NET can get them where they need to go.

Available at a range of Freshers events, NET will be offering their special one-off £200 student season ticket. Their campaign gives students a quick, safe and affordable way to “get learning, get exploring, and get out and have some fun”. This one-off ticket provides students with a seasoned discount of over 30 per cent annually.

NET’s newest campaign hopes to highlight just how students can best utilise their local services as well as learn how to travel safely. “Get exploring” sets out to promote the tramline’s frequent services and numerous tram stops located amongst some of Nottingham’s most popular bars, shops, and sights.

Spanning from Hucknall all the way to Clifton, Nottingham’s tramline provides a quick and easy way for students to explore their new home.

As part of their campaign, NET has implemented a focus on safe travel. With all trams equipped with HD CCTV cameras, students will feel secure knowing that their journey is routinely observed. Likewise, the tramline is issued with several help points and emergency help buttons that will provide a direct link to staff who would consequently provide support and advice to their passengers.

NET will join various Freshers Week events across the city, with a ‘Smooth Journeys’ smoothie bar offering students a free smoothie when they sign up to the free NetGo! app. Freshers will be able to purchase their special discounted £200 season ticket at a range of events, including:

  • Clifton Campus Fresher’s Fair: Tuesday 20th September, from 10 am – 4 pm
  • City Campus Fresher’s Fair: Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd September, from 10 am – 5 pm
  • Victoria Centre’ Student Lock In’: Wednesday 5th October, from 5 pm – 10 pm

This offer is particularly beneficial for Clifton students who reside in the city as it offers an alternative to the often-busy bus route. Fortunately, trams rarely get caught up in traffic and are less susceptible to delays, so it is worth considering NET’s season ticket if you are worried about this.

It is also worth mentioning that NET enforces a “buy before you board” policy wherein students must have their tickets purchased ahead of their journey. They would like to kindly remind students that there is a £70 penalty fare and the possibility of a £1000 fine and a criminal record for those who are not willing to abide.

NET Head of Marketing, Alison Sweeney, said: “We can’t wait to welcome thousands of new students into the city and to show how the tram offers a quick, safe and affordable way to get the most out of Nottingham.

“With travel from just 60p per day, this year’s £200 season ticket is the hottest ticket in town for new students but is only available at Freshers Week activities, so we urge all new students to come along, grab a smoothie on us, and get a great deal on tram travel.”

For those who are unsure whether to purchase the reduced season ticket, be sure to speak to a NET representative for more information. Alternatively, head to thetram.net to find out more.
