TV Review: The Celebrity Circle 2021

It’s finally here! The highly anticipated Channel Four series – The Celebrity Circle – hosted by Emma Willis, finally returned to our screens with the Celebrities supporting Stand up to Cancer.

The celebrity spin-off of The Circle aired last week on Channel Four for six episodes, with the celebrities competing as either themselves, or catfishing as other celebrities to make it to the final.

Participating this series is a wide range of iconic UK celebrities from Rapper Lady Leshurr, Nadia Sawalha and Kaye Adams off Loose Women, to Charlotte Crosby off Geordie Shore.

Now that the explosive series is over, let’s reflect on some of the moments which happened during the show. Firstly, I must begin with saying what a great series, genuinely it was exciting having a new episode looking forward to every night especially during these times in lockdown.

It was brilliant watching all of them compete against each other, some standouts came from witnessing Sam Thompson and Pete Wicks playing as Countdown’s Rachel Riley, as well as presenting duo Melvin Odoom and Rickie Haywood playing as superstar Will-i-am.

The fact these two pairs specifically were able to keep the act up for so long was pure genius’ if it was myself playing, I would’ve definitely slipped up in a way like Nadia and Kaye.

Adding to my previous point which left me amused, was Nadia and Kaye who were playing Gemma Collins. The fact they got Amy Childs name wrong as “Amy Chiles” considering Gemma worked on TOWIE with Amy and Nadia’s assurance that she was right kept me amused. The moment it happened I just knew that’s it; they’ve blown it.

This series of Celebrity Circle is full of hilarious moments, drama, intensity, and most of all frustrating, yet exciting cliff-hangers. Certain episodes raged me but in a comedic way as it finished on the most dramatic moments and I thought come on just show what happens already! I must add, Denise van Outen needs to become a detective.

Meanwhile, the importance of Stand Up to Cancer was prevalent throughout with stories about people who have been impacted by Cancer. This was an important notion to include, as it’s something which impacts everybody’s lives with at least every one of us knowing someone who has/been affected by cancer.

The Circle itself has an outstanding format, playing on the influence of social media and catfishing is genius, but adding the twist of throwing well known celebrities, not just those which nobody knows of is a great move from Channel Four.

After watching this series, all I want is more Celebrity Circle, six episodes was not enough, that’s what I would recommend Channel Four to do in the next Celebrity series, is to make the spin-off series longer!

However, it has made me even more excited for series three of The Circle, which is coming up this week to Channel Four, which I highly recommend watching. After the Celebrity version I am craving catfish-drama!

The Celebrity Circle is available here.
