Single Review: Billie Eilish – My Future

Do you revel in being alone? Billie Eilish does. Writing this beautiful tracking during the lockdown, we definately hear the growth Eilish has undertaken as an artist…

From the beginning, the vocals are at the forefront. The mood is very melancholic, something that is signature to Eilish’s style. Very subtle harmonies are added yet not in a haunting way like we are used to hearing in tracks such as you should see me in a crown and bury a friend. There is soul, and we are here for it.

Lyrically Eilish is highlighting being alone. We are thinking this is maybe a sad affair but then she oozes with honesty that she has loved this solitude and is ready for her future prospects.

Boom! We are hit with a drumbeat that completely switches up the track which creates an almost R&B vibe which makes it an utter slow jam. Eilish mentions here that she is told she needs someone to not feel lonely, that’s not the case and she is ‘in love with my future.’

Here is some positivity we haven’t seen from Eilish before. If we look back at her album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, which had major themes of suicide, anti-depressants, and loss, this track sways in a different mood and direction while still having slightly dark tones.

My Future feels like a song of two halves, expertly executed to reveal what might be Eilish’snew sound. There is a sense of growth of maturity within her soul-filled vocals which is just sublime.

Now begins the wait for more singles and hopefully a new album.
