Nottingham’s much-loved music venue The Bodega is in the running to win a national award.
The DHP-owned venue has been nominated for ‘national grassroots venue of the year’ at The Music Week awards.
For more than two decades, the iconic building on Pelham Street has welcomed artists like The White Stripes, The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, The 1975, and Charli XCX in the early stages of their careers.
The venue opened on November 30, 1999, as The Social. It was then taken over by DHP Family in 2004 and renamed The Bodega three years later. Last November, the venue celebrated its 25th birthday with a headline gig by Sleaford Mods.
Jason Williamson, one half of the group, said: “The Bodega is an important part of Nottingham’s creative ecosystem. Nottingham has always had a rich musical culture, but so many of the grassroots venues I played coming up are now closed.
“The Bodega is the only one left at that level and it’s important that it remains open to keep Nottingham on the musical map.”
The winner for the award will be decided by the public, with voting open until 5pm on Monday, March 10. The Leadmill in Sheffield and the Camden Assembly in London are among the other grassroots venues nominated.
The awards are judged by an independent panel of specialist judges and winners will be revealed on May 8.
