Freshers Week: Where are the best student friendly pubs in Nottingham?

So you’ve just moved into your halls or your uni house. Are you feeling unsure about what to do now? Where are the best places to visit? And more importantly where are the best deals? Here are some ideas to get you started.

Bunk

With its iconic red neon sign, bountiful plants and cosy leather sofas the atmosphere is perfect for Instagram pics.

There are three Bunks in total in Nottingham; meaning you are never too far away from one.

They are located on Wollaton street, Lace Market and Lower Parliament Street. Serving both cocktails and chicken wings, what more could you ask for?

Las Iguanas

Self-described as “Your ticket to celebrating life the Latin American way” this restaurant is known for its flavourful food and playful cocktails.

From Caipirinha’s to Vanilla Mai Tai’s this place has cocktails covered.

It is located minutes away from Old Market Square on Chapel Quarter, meaning it’s a great place to start the evening.

Bills

Do you need the perfect brunch location? Well you’ve found it.

Bills has a specified breakfast menu including vegan options. If you are rarely up for Brunch, it also has a great dinner and drinks menu.

It is located on Queen Street just off of Market Square, you can’t miss it with its orange sign and rainforest inspired foliage.

Rock city

A legendary music venue located on Talbot Street.

Hosting club nights and live acts, the perfect night out for any music lover. It has six bars spread across three rooms. Currently they are still open and are socially distancing with a bar atmosphere.

They have announced that gigs should be coming back soon.

Student night is Thursday, with many deals like 2-4-1 drinks! Open 10pm-3am and also open during the day on Saturday as a beer garden.

Pryzm

Probably the biggest and most popular club in Nottingham, Pryzm is definitely worth the visit.

The vinyl room is one of the more popular rooms, with an iconic throwback soundtrack.

Unfortunately, it is closed right now because of the current situation but hopefully it will open again soon.

It is located on Lower Parliament street and is hard to miss.

Alchemist

As one of the pricier options on the list I wouldn’t advise a weekly visit. I’d recommend visiting on a special occasion, or when the student loan comes in!

It is hard to miss with its impressive urban gothic architecture and is located on King St.

It serves classic and unique cocktails all made by experts who are practically magicians.

Cookie Shake Bar

Ideal for cheap drinks and adventurous flavours. They are known for their bizarrely flavoured shots from Cadbury crème egg to wasabi.

Inside they have comfortable sofas and a relaxed atmosphere. But on a hot day I’d recommend sitting in the secret garden.

Located on Upper Parliament street. During the day, it is the perfect place for a topped hot chocolate or a fancy milkshake.

All 54 unique shots are 99p Wednesday – Thursday. The Monday – Wednesday deal includes 5 shots and a bottle for £5.70. Open 10:30-1am.

Georges Great British kitchen

Here they pride themselves on serving “proper” British food and splendid cocktails.

I would recommend ordering the fish and chips, the whole menu has student friendly prices.

It has a casual vibe and is a great place to relax with friends. Located on Queen Street.
