UoN darts team member found dead

A member of the University of Nottingham (UoN) darts team has been found dead, they have declared.

Ben Clark, known as Countdown by his friends, was a key member of UoN’s darts team as they won the unofficial varsity event for a fourth consecutive year on March 13.

The former geography with business student was described as a “great kind friend” in a statement released by the darts society.

A spokesperson for the group said: “I don’t think there is anything we can say right now to make this easier to digest.

“We have drafted this message multiple times since finding out and there are no right words for this situation.

“As we all know, Countdown was a fundamental part of not just this society, but University darts, both this year and during his undergraduate years.

“He will be missed dearly, not least for his humour, quiz knowledge and darting ability, but for the great kind friend he was.

“We express our condolences to Countdown’s family.

“Rest in Peace Coundown, we will hold those final memories of us all celebrating Varsity together dear.”

Tributes to the charismatic student have already begun to pour in.

Jack Harwood, former NTU Darts President and Captain, said: “I’m devastated to hear this. Ben was a class lad and will always have fond memories of him! RIP Countdown”

George Francis tweeted: “This is absolutely horrible news. Ben was a very funny guy and always a pleasure to play darts with, I’m so sad to hear this.”

Ed Hambleton added: “Thoughts go to the family. Far too young. May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest sweet prince. RIP.”

UoN and UoN Student Union have been contacted for comment.
