A look at RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Season 2 so far

If you’re looking for ways to celebrate LGBTQ+ history month, then tune into the Drag Race phenomenon which has arrived in the UK for its second series and is bound to give you some top quality entertainment and education this February.

BBC Three has hosted the first four episodes with RuPaul, Michelle Visage, Alan Carr and Graham Norton who are all looking for the UK’s next drag superstar.

The first season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK made an outstanding debut with BBC viewers, as ratings were well over 10 million watching on iPlayer. These new queens had big shoes to fill in series two.

From the first episode this cast proved themselves to be tough competition, from the mini challenge photoshoot to the “Queen of your hometown” runway with Tia Kofi and Awhora proudly representing Nottinghamshire (which made me smile seeing my hometown!)

The first few episodes include: a musical based on Cats, a design challenge, and a TV morning breakfast show sketch, with a variety of guest judges from Sheridan Smith to Lorraine Kelly and more, BAM what a treat to have!

One of the most heart-warming moments so far was Ginny Lemon discussing openly about their non-binary identity and being proud of representing the colour yellow from the LGBTQ+ flag. This moment pulls on the heartstrings and informs people of the importance of recognising all identities among the community.

More personal highlights of mine so far include: Lawrence Chaney every episode – comedy gold, Awhora’s brilliant fashion looks have been leaving me intrigued, but I also have a feeling Tayce is going to dominate the competition in the second half of the series – let’s see if I’m proved right or wrong.

For the most jaw dropping moment of the series so far you have to watch episode four – what a gag!

We’re very excited to see what happens during the next half of the series, as the first four episodes were filmed during 2020 prior to the pandemic meaning this Thursday there will with there being a seven-month time. So, let’s see which queens have used this time to enhance their drag skills and who will win the race to the crown.

This drag show is bound to spoil you with some iconic British drama, shocking lip-syncs and extravagant fashion, it is a show which cannot be missed!

RuPaul’s Drag Race UK airs every Thursday 8pm on BBC iPlayer.
