‘If You’re Gonna Break My Heart’ – Inhaler Single Review

Irish rock band Inhaler, consisting of Elijah Hewson, Josh Jenkinson, Robert Keating and Ryan McMahon, unveil their new track ‘If You’re Gonna Break My Heart’.

It is the bands third single from their upcoming second album ‘Cuts & Bruises’, set to be released on February, 17.

After the release of their debut album ‘It Won’t Always Be Like This’ in June 2021, new music has been much anticipated by fans of the band, particularly as the album entered both the UK and Irish Album Chart at number one.

‘If You’re Gonna Break My Heart’ is the latest single to be released for the new era, following tracks ‘These Are The Days’ and ‘Love Will Get You There’.

Described as an essential modern indie rock track, with influences from the likes of Bob Dylan, The Band and Bruce Springsteen, this single certainly transitions the band into some new and exciting territory.

Slightly more downbeat and mellow compared to their two previous single releases, the lyrics hint at heartbreak and the inability to move on, ensuring Inhaler are able to showcase their sound and originality in todays’ music industry.

“If you’re gonna break my heart, smash it to pieces.

“Cause I’m not gonna need it, as much as I do right now”

Written while on tour in America, integrations of American styling are clearly evident throughout the track, with rising chord structures and swooning vocals paying perfect tribute to great American songwriters.

“Listening to these artists while travelling on big open highways resonated with us and helped shaped this song into making us sound more like a live band than we had before,” recalls lead singer Elijah Hewson.

2023 is set to be a big year for the band.

The release of their second album will be shortly followed by the UK leg of their ‘Cuts & Bruises’ tour, which sees sold out dates at venues including Nottingham’s Rock City, before departing on the US and EU legs of the tour.

Furthermore, the band are set to fulfil supporting slots for Arctic Monkeys on the European leg of their world tour later this year, as well as at the Irish date of Harry Styles’ ‘Love on Tour’ at Slane Castle in June.

‘Cuts and Bruises’ is set to be released on February 17, while ‘If You’re Gonna Break My Heart’ can be streamed on all formats now.
