Review: JAWS at Rescue Rooms

Stay In, Stay Out… Stay In Stay Out… The closing hook of the indie-rock band, Jaws, swept people off their feet — literally — at Nottingham’s Rescue Rooms.

With over a 100K monthly Spotify listeners, it was surprising not to see a larger crowd gathering earlier on in the evening. Awaiting the arrival of the JAWS, the crowd was taken off-guard by rock four-piece Sugarthief. While the opening set was not as energetic compared to the rest of the evening, there was no doubt the local band got the crowd well ready and prepared for the Birmingham dream-pop trio. The quartet effortlessly won the crowd’s heart and even rocked it enough to start a mosh pit during their performance.

With extremely eye-catching and dream-like lighting, JAWS lived up to their dream-pop aura and appearance. The trio nonchalantly amplified the bar’s atmosphere, and didn’t back down from matching the crowd’s intensity. Opening the show with Driving at Night, it was definitely a heart-moving moment making it a great start to the rest of the night, whilst lead guitarist and singer Connor Schofield effortlessly took the entire crowd on a rollercoaster ride. The crowd was already swaying to the beats of What We Haven’t Got Yet before they knew it, which beautifully transitioned into 17 where the atmosphere was indescribably euphoric.

The trio signed off with their hit Stay In and just when you thought the crowd couldn’t get more energetic, a number of crowd-surfers began to take over the venue. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait another five years to witness the incredibly unique and breathtaking band in Nottingham again.
