Review: The 1975 – Me & You Together Song

It’s the fourth single released from their much-anticipated album, Notes on a Conditional Form.

On the surface, the song resembles a love letter to an unknown person, however, the single is actually about frontman Matty Healy’s inner conflict with his sexuality and how it is perceived by others.

The lyrics reflect Healy’s almost child-like dreams of falling in love and domesticity (‘I had a dream when we were kids / You would cook, I’d do the nappies’), and answer claims about him being gay (‘Oh it’s okay, lots of people think I’m gay’) in a way that represents his carefree and flamboyant attitude as a pop star.

Disguising the hidden deeper meaning of the lyrics, the upbeat and catchy tune of Me and You Together Song is a reminder of summer and will definitely be a fan favourite upon the album’s release on April 24.

Me & You Together Song is a perfect contrast to some of the other singles from Notes on a Conditional Form, ‘People’ in particular, which certainly adds to the anticipation of the record’s release.
