Billie Eilish bury a friend

Single review and album preview: Billie Eilish buries a friend and falls asleep

Teenage sensation Billie Eilish has announced her debut album ‘When we all fall asleep, where do we go?’ Released on March 29, there is no stopping the 17-year-old.

Known for her sad, definitive tones and lyrics, Billie Eilish is back, bigger and better than ever. The new single has over 21 million views since its release on the January 30 and starts with a horror themed scene and eerily music before it breaks into a beat similar to Kanye West’s ‘Black Skinhead’. The song is produced by her brother Finneas, which is a normal occurrence as they tend to vibe together in his room and famously, he wrote her hit track ‘Ocean Eyes.’

There is a philosophical air around the title of the album ‘When we all fall asleep where do we go?’  which can also be heard in the chorus of the new single. Eilish bases the song on a monster’s perspective which is played by herself and has jet black eyes, her signature blue hair and a striking white t-shirt.

It is also apparent that Eilish can be her own worst enemy and portrays the fears people have with needles placed in her back, which is definitely not for the faint-hearted. Eilish effortlessly voices these questions synonymously with electronic effects, breaking the song up into various segments. It solidifies her unique approach she takes with her songs, ‘step on the glass, staple your tongue’ the dark lyrics often lead to more questions revolving around Eilish and her personal life, arguably to whether any of the songs on the album will be more upbeat or can we expect a deeper, ghostly vibe?

Regardless, she is an incredible artist that has gracefully mastered the music industry at an extraordinary young age and will no doubt have many more hits to come. The album also features her previously released tracks ‘when the party’s over’ and ‘you should see me in a crown’. This will be an album not to miss and will no doubt score more fans and mark her place firmly in the industry.
