Dozens of homes evacuated as floods hit Nottinghamshire

Twenty-five homes have had to be evacuated after heavy rainfall overnight caused extensive flooding in Worksop.

A number of streets in the town centre have also been closed.

Early reports indicate that some residents have been stuck with sewage and rain water reaching up to their chests after the area was struck with heavy rainfall.

The River Ryton has also reportedly reached dangerously high levels.

Several streets in the town centre have been closed.

Several emergency services, including Nottinghamshire’s Search and Rescue Team, have been deployed to the scene and have been working through the night to assist families and businesses that have been affected.

Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Police have warned of road closures because of the overnight flooding:

  • A632 Walton
  • A61 Derby Road Chesterfield
  • Sheffield Road
  • B5008 Etwell Road, Willington
  • A6 Matlock and Matlock Bath
  • The Lanes, Bolehill
Extensive flooding extends throughout most main roads in the town centre.

A rest centre has been set up in Worksop Leisure Centre in collaboration with the British Red Cross for those affected by the flooding, with around 100 people currently there.
