Nottingham Trent and University of Nottingham join forces for General Election campaign

After the announcement of the next General Election on 12 December, NTSU’s President Bradley Fox announced on social media that NTU and UoN are banding together to create a joint manifesto.

On 30 October, members of Parliament voted overwhelmingly in favour of a December election for the first time since 1923, with a margin of 438 votes to 20.

The election was backed by both Johnson and Corbyn, who have both started their election campaigns before voters return to the polls.

The government has already noted a sharp increase in people registering to vote, most strikingly in the number of students and young people, with a third of all registrations from the past two days being from people aged under 25.

On the back of this announcement Bradley Fox, NTSU’s President, revealed on social media that Nottingham Trent University’s students’ union would be joining forces with the students’ union of the University of Nottingham.

He revealed on Twitter: “NTSU and UoNSU are joining forces to make sure that the students of Nottingham are well represented by our local MPs and national parties.”

“We want to know what your priorities are so that we can ensure that the candidates for the constituencies across Nottinghamshire have your priorities at the forefront of their mind,” he continued.

The aim of the joint campaign is to create a manifesto that the Universities will share, created from student responses.

Both Universities have encouraged students to fill out a survey online to make their voice heard, which will help the future national representatives of Nottinghamshire represent the student bodies of both Universities.

If you haven’t already, you can register to vote at both your home address as well as your University address here: www.gov.uk/registertovote
