University of Nottingham to take part in biggest ever UCU strikes

The University of Nottingham (UoN) is set to take part in another set of strikes organised by the University and College Union (UCU).

74 Universities across the UK are due to take part in a series of strikes across a two week period.

The University of Nottingham will suffer from strikes between 20 February and 13 March.

Striking staff and students will be on picket lines outside the Jubilee and University park campus, before a communal rally from 11:30 on Thursday 20 February opposite the Trent Building of UoN’s University Park campus.

Staff are striking as a result of changes to pensions and a lack of improvements to equality and workloads.

UCU regional official Sue Davis said: “It is incredibly frustrating that UCU members are being forced to walk out again to secure fair pay, conditions and pensions.

“If universities want to avoid continued disruption then they need to get their representatives back to the negotiating table with serious options to resolve these disputes.”

The number of universities being hit by the action is the largest since a nationwide two-day strike in 2016.

Despite not being affected by the strikes, Nottingham Trent University’s Labour society has announced their support for those striking.
