NTU Rugby: Brutal display from the boys in pink destroys Uni of Leeds

Three tries in three minutes closed the show on a dominant performance by NTU Rugby’s first team at Ladybay stadium.

From the outset NTU were on the front foot against a Leeds team who were missing a couple of key players. The first try came in just the second minute thanks to great work from winger Jack Armitage who scored in the corner and from there Trent pressed home their advantage.

Another followed three minutes later as a botched clearing kick from Leeds was blocked leading to a turnover. Trent were patient, they went through their phases and it ended up with a try this time in a much more central position and this time Jack Bouchier converted it to give them a 12-0 lead.

Eight minutes later and Bouchier was nailing another conversion over the posts to make it 19-0, the boys in pink were relentless in their attack and scrum-half Josh Goodwin went under the posts for NTU’s fourth try in less than half an hour.

Bouchier didn’t have to wait long for another chance to kick for the posts and he did the business converting another try and making it 33-0.

Leeds woke from an apparent slumber at this point and began to look less like a football team playing rugby, and more like a rugby team playing rugby. Their first sustained spell of possession lead to some pressure on the Trent try line, but some excellent defence eventually pushed the visitors back.

The boys in pink started the second half as they had begun the first – with a try. A maul that started just outside the Leeds 22-metre line was driven by the NTU pack over the line. Their pack dominated the contest driving back the Leeds scrum at every opportunity and dominating the breakdown.

Changes were made by both sides as the second half went on which led to a temporary halt in the try-fest. Trent finished the game as strong as it is possible to do though with three tries in the final three minutes. The referee blew his whistle on the game after the last one was converted bringing to close a brutally clinical performance from Trent at 62-0.
