How to Save Money on a Night Out

Nights out can be hard on your wallet, and it’s often hard to stay in control of what you’re spending after a few drinks. Here are 6 tips and tricks to make sure you still have a great night without blowing your student loan!

1. Pres Pres Pres – I cannot stress enough how fundamental these are to both student life and money-saving. Buy your drinks from a supermarket and have them before you go out to avoid overpriced drinks. Just make sure that the bouncers can’t tell how drunk you are.

2. Leave the debit card behind– Take out the amount you think is reasonable for your night, including taxis, drinks and food. When you use it up, you can’t splurge using money that you can’t see on your card, so you have more control over what you spend! You definitely won’t be waking up in the morning wondering where your money has gone.

3. Recycle your wardrobe – You don’t need a new outfit every time you go out. Who cares if you’re photographed in the same outfit twice? It’s having a good time with your mates that matter the most. In any case, head to a charity shop as there are plenty of trendy places in Nottingham, this is not only good for the environment but it helps towards a good cause.

4. Be thrifty – Look for 2for1 cocktail offers at bars in town and look around at the best prices for value before you go. There are plenty of places that offer student deals such as Bierkeller who offer £2 pints with a student card between certain hours. Use the voucher books you are given at the start of the year, these have great deals for entry (usually free before a certain time) and money off of drinks.

5. Walk home (with friends) – Instead of paying for a taxi, if you live nearby then buddy up and hike it home. It will help you sober up better too.

6. Share the ride– If it’s too cold to walk, split the fare of your taxi and try to fit as many of you as possible. Download the uber app so that you are never stranded and always have a way of getting home.
