The safest way to travel with cash

There are many growing ways that you can travel without cash, some through the post office and traveller’s check and others through a pre-paid card. However, travelling was made so much easier for me with an app I was told about called Revolut. Having usually save up to go on at least one holiday in the year and then have to save up some cash to have some spending money abroad, this comes in handy.

Carrying lots of cash around is not really a good idea especially if youā€™re forgetful like me and find yourself misplacing things. Anything could go wrong from being robbed to leaving your wallet in the back of a taxi.

My friend recommended Revolut to me a year ago, but I didnā€™t think much of it. One week later another friend recommended the app to me so I decided I would give it a go to see what the fuss was about.

Revolut is a free app where you can make an account that can hold money, you can use it like Apple Pay on your phone and then you will receive a physical card that you will get sent in the post (all for free!).

If you are a regular traveller or even just a yearly holiday goer, it may be something for you.

There are different types of paid and unpaid Revolut accounts you can choose but the free standard version is amazing enough so just go with that one.

Once I transferred some money into it, I was rewarded with an extra Ā£5 from Revolut to spend however I wanted as that was their special deal at the time.

Youā€™re able to exchange the Pounds youā€™ve transferred to Euros or any other currency you like at one of the best exchange rates… and better yet there is no commission cost so you can exchange back and forth as much as you like. What I like about the app is that whatever money you donā€™t spend you can just transfer back to your normal currency and into your normal bank account after anyway.

Or if you want to, you can actually use the pounds you transfer onto your Revolut card in the UK.

One of the best features that made travelling so much easier was the split the bill option. This way me and my boyfriend were able to go halves on everything without having to work out who owes what. Trust me this is a lifesaver.

Starling and Monzo

There are two other cards that are similarly called Starling and Monzo, they offer fee-free overspending meaning you won’t be charged to withdraw money or for the transaction fee. Starling offers a MasterCard rate and realtime transactions so you can see the money come out straight away.

If you find yourself travelling soon, Revolut has a deal right now to get a free Ā£15 if you use this [affiliate] link: https://revolut.com/referral/katie5tq3!a10121
