Film Review: A Week Away

Orphan teenager Will Hawkins never expected that his biggest mistake would lead to him finding family, love and a place where he belongs…

A Week Away begins with teenager Will Hawkins (Kevin Quinn) running away from a policeman after he stole his car. Once captured, he is sent to social services where it is mentioned that since the death of his parents, Will has been in and out of 22 fosters homes, and attended seven schools in six years. When he thinks that his number is finally up, and that he is off to “juvie”, Kristin (Sherri Shepherd) and her son George (Jahbril Cook) decide that they will take him in as long as he spends the week at the Christian summer camp where Kristin works. After some hesitation, Will agrees to accompany them to Camp Aweegaway.

Upon arrival, Will falls in love with Avery (Bailee Madison), the daughter of the camp’s director David (David Koechner) whom he realises can never know who he truly is. He ends up making George help him to cover up his past from everyone at camp, saying that they are cousins and Will lives in Philadelphia. In return for his help, Will helps George talk to his crush Presley (Kat Conner Sterling).

Every summer camp has a big competition and Camp Aweegaway is no different. The three teams – the Azure Apostles (Sean: Ian Tucker), Crimson Angels (Avery and Presley) and Verdes Maximus (Will and George).

A Week Away is reminiscent of cult favourites Camp Rock and High School Musical, with songs that are sure to be stuck in your head for weeks after you’ve finished watching!

I highly recommend!
