NTSU names Platform the Society of the Year

With the final results of this year’s Students’ Union awards just announced, we are pleased to announce that Platform is officially… the Society of the Year!

In a livestream on NTSU’s Facebook page, Vice President for Community and Welfare Liv Broad, said: “With over 140 societies here at NTU, it’s never easy picking a winner.

“They had 300 sign ups at freshers week, triple of what they had in previous year.

“They have been recognised by external organisations with awards, and sustaining charities and promoting campaigns on mental health.”

Besides Platform, five other societies were nominated for this award: Conservation, Clifton Christian Union, Commercial awarenes, Craft and the Gamer society.

Liv added: “The successful nominee catered for all members by organising a variety of events, activities and been successful in fulfilling its aims and objectives.

“It aimed to raise profile of societies within NTSU and the university, effectively managed the society’s budget and accounts, had good membership retention and engagement throughout the year, effectively communicated with society members and maintained a positive representation of NTSU and the university.”

This year’s Editor in Chief for Platform, Harvey Clitheroe, said: “I’m unbelievably proud of the whole Platform team, this is the third year we have been nominated for Society of the Year which goes to show the consistent commitment of each year’s committee to the magazine.

“It was one of my biggest targets at the start of the year to be nominated for Society of the Year at the SU awards so I’m overjoyed that we have been able to achieve that and surpass the target by winning the award! Couldn’t be happier. ”

After the official announcement made via the Facebook livestream, Vice President for Education Afua Acheampong congratulated Platform for their success: “Well done, Platform! What a great year you’ve had!”

May we add – ‘and many more to come’.
