Everything you need to know if you’re living at Peverell

Here are 5 things you need to know about your new home:

  1. Social life

Peverell is one of the universities biggest halls, with over 700 residents you will never run out of people to talk to. Freshers in Pev are known for being mad but it doesn’t stop there. Expect to hear people pre-ing every night, so if you’re a light sleeper, Peverell probably isn’t the one for you. On each side of the halls, is a common room, although I’ve never actually seen it being used, it is one of the few things we have, that New Hall doesn’t.

2. Some flats have been renovated, others haven’t

Don’t be surprised if the pictures you are shown look NOTHING like your kitchen!

When booking your room, you will be shown a shiny, new, modern kitchen, but I’d lower your expectations. Only a handful of flats have been renovated, if yours has, you’re one of the lucky ones, but the vast majority haven’t. When I moved into my flat, I felt as if I had gone back in time. The kitchen was very basic and very worn but what can you expect for the cheapest halls on Clifton.

3. Expect things to break

Peverell is one of Trent’s oldest halls so once you’ve settled in, sit back and wait for things to go wrong. In the 8 months I lived there, my oven stopped working, my toaster blew, and my shower was constantly blocked. £140/week and nothing works? Maybe I should have paid the extra money and stayed in New Hall.

4. Perfect location

The Library, The Point, the Lee Westwood sports centre, the campus shop, The Pavilion, everything you need all less than 5 minutes away from your bedroom. If you’re based in Clifton, you can roll out of bed at 8:55 and still make you’re 9 am. No excuses to miss your lectures, right?

5. Parking

Peverell is the only halls on Clifton that offers student parking. £200 to park metres away from your block. Parking in Clifton itself is almost impossible but if you are lucky enough to find a space, your car will probably get broken into. If you’re bringing your car to uni, it’s probably worth choosing Peverell and getting a permit.
