Nottinghamshire are chasing an unlikely 411 runs for victory as they aim to boost their Division One survival hopes against Hampshire.
The Trent Bridge-based side have been left in an unfavourable position by a miserable Day 2 that saw them concede 344 runs for just wickets, having already trailed by 66 runs from the first innings.
Openers Haseeb Hameed and Ben Slater at least kept their wickets intact for the final overs of the day and will begin the Nottinghamshire chase on 11-0 today.
With both sides knowing that day four of this contest, on Saturday, is likely to be a washout anyway, the onus will be entirely on a jam-packed Friday to force a result.
