Theatre Royal Nottingham to stage socially-distanced production of Sleeping Beauty

The Theatre Royal have announced they will be staging a socially-distanced pantomime of Sleeping Beauty this Christmas in a limited three week run – once national lockdown restrictions have been lifted.

Thanks to the support of the National Lottery, the Theatre Royal will be holding the production from 12 December, starring Paul Chuckle, Ben Nickless and street dance stars Flawless.

Councillor Dave Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture & IT at Nottingham City Council said: “Pantomime plays an enduring and much-loved part in our city’s rich cultural life, a festive highlight which has marked each and every year since the Theatre Royal’s very first pantomime in 1865.

“Once theatres are allowed to safely reopen again, we very much look forward to welcoming audiences back this Christmas, after what has been an incredibly challenging year for us all.

We can’t wait to see everyone and share some much-needed festive cheer!”

The National Lottery have provided thousands of theatre lovers – in Nottingham and across the country – the opportunity to enjoy theatre once again this Christmas.

After teaming up with Qdos Entertainment, the National Lottery are providing financial support for theatres across the UK to hold these socially distanced pantomimes this festive season.

The Theatre were due to stage a production of Robin Hood this Christmas; however this will now be staged in 2021 and existing bookers for this pantomime have already been contacted in terms of details of their new tickets.

The Theatre Royal have introduced measures – adhering to national government guidance – to ensure customers, staff and performers are safe when they are welcomed back into theatres this season.

These measures include socially-distanced seating, electronic ticketing, temperature checking, one-way systems and of course hand sanitiser stations.

Tickets for the general sale of Sleeping Beauty go on sale Tuesday 17 November 2020 at 10am.
