SS23 (Spring/Summer 2023) Upcoming Fashion Trends: Womenswear

With the end of London, Milan, and Paris Fashion Weeks, and the emergence of the Spring Equinox, a new era of fashion trends has emerged: florals, maxi skirts, sheer, and denim layering have all made a comeback both in streetwear and formalwear.

So, letā€™s take a deep dive into what we will expect in the upcoming months within the fashion storefronts.

Florals:

You might be thinking of the famous ā€˜Devil Wears Pradaā€™ line when it comes to floral print. However, florals have only recently come back into trend this spring, appearing in tops and dresses to make a colourful statement.

The Spring/Summer 2023 trend forecast dubbed the surge of florals ā€˜Paisley Prettyā€™ utilising floral prints to make any outfit visually captivating.

Maxi Skirts:

As miniskirts and low-rise jeans began to lose their popularity, maxi skirts quickly took their place in linen, cotton, and denim. As a cooler alternative for the increasing temperatures, maxi skirts slowly filter into our wardrobes.

However, this is not the first time we have seen maxi skirts make an appearance; Look no further at Summer 2022ā€™s trend forecast where we saw the emergence of maxi skirts.

Mermaid-core:

With the rising temperatures and the longer days, mermaid-core has been seen on the runway has risen dramatically with the growth of sheer, and frills, embodying sea-life qualities.

Coupled with glitter and sequins in the clothingā€™s fabrics, this trend will make a shining impression, physically and metaphorically. So, bring on the seashell bikinis and conch shell handbags this summertime to spice up your outfit choices.

Denim Layering:

Maxi skirts, bandeau tops, and handbags, denim layering is predicted to take off within the spring/summer months, acting as a unique statement piece. Regardless of the colour palette, there is a large variety of denim clothing items to make a cohesive and innovative outfit.

However, the one statement piece everyone was captivated by was Alexander McQueenā€™s asymmetrical denim dress, which may even last into the AW23 (Autumn/Winter 2023) collection.

Overall, regardless of the upcoming Spring/Summer 2023 trends dominating the fashion world, there is a stronger emphasis on the sense of individuality; everything and nothing is trending which allows everyone to express themselves however they see fit, allowing further free expression and endless creativity.

For a tip to sustainable fashion, I would recommend following the trends that you truly love and can incorporate into your wardrobe to adopt a healthy fashion sense. That way, you are not letting fashion trends dictate and control your fashion choices.
