Comics Society Recreated with Help of New Vice-President

NTSU’s Comics, Cartoons and Creatives Society has been given a new lease of life with the aid of a new vice-president.

The society, founded in 2016, was initially centred around reading and discussing graphic novels but was feared it would disband this year due to lack of interest. In an effort to keep the society alive, president Aysha Rahman, a 24-year-old Business Management student, opened up a vacancy for a vice-president to assist her in drawing in new members. Sebastian Noël, 26, stepped up to fill this position, helping to organise regular meet-ups with a new focus on art and creation.

Essex-born Sebastian describes the reborn CCC Society as a “community for supporting a creative comic output” where members can “draw and shoot ideas at each other.”

Each of the society’s weekly workshops has a different objective, such as designing characters or drawing backgrounds.

The second-year Linguistics student said that they hope to produce an anthology comprised of members’ creations, either in a graphic novel or magazine format. They added: “We have small goals for the start – they’ll probably get loftier as we go on.”

CCC society meetings are open to all every Monday at 5:30pm in the Student Union Lounge. The treasurer, Phoenix, said: “The society really is for everyone – we all help each other learn, so it’s a really supportive environment.”

Sebastian also elaborated on the difficulties surrounding getting a society off the ground. They said: “Reaching out to people and making them aware that the society exists is a lot harder than you’d think.

“Hopefully, when the community keeps growing, we’ll give people more responsibilities.”
