Trent students have their say on the Kentucky Fried Chaos

There has been public outrage this week due to a shortage of chicken at KFC. A majority of stores across the country have shut down due to a delivery error which has left individuals all over the country without their fried chicken fix.

The worldwide chicken shop franchise has claimed that they recently changed their delivery couriers, which led to a national crisis. Branches all across Britain closed due to this shortage, with branches in Newcastle, Nottinghamshire, Devon, Bristol, Berkshire, Surrey and Suffolk (just to name a few), all being affected.

KFC commented on their delivery error, claiming: “Weā€™ve brought a new delivery partner on board, but theyā€™ve had a couple of teething problems- getting fresh chicken out to 900 restaurants across the country is pretty complex.”

They also claimed that their stores are attempting to work around this shortage by offering a limited menu or opening for a limited number of hours.

Customers who attempted to get their chicken fix were faced with closed doors and letters, which said statements such as: ā€˜weā€™ve had a few hiccups with the delivery todayā€™ and ā€˜we currently do not have any original recipe chicken or fries.ā€™

KFCā€™s recent ā€˜teething problemā€™ however has sparked controversy, with people claiming it to be the end of the world.

A video has also recently been going viral around Twitter, with a woman outraged to be without her chicken fix- “Iā€™ll need to go to Burger King now!”

The chicken shortage seemed to be also taking its toll on their workers with a video which shows KFC workers smuggling chicken during the delivery crisis.

We interviewed students at Nottingham Trent University, asking them to share their views on the recent chicken chaos. One student ā€˜didnā€™t even know there wasā€™ a chicken shortage.

Whereas another student, Lewis Welcher, claimed: ā€˜ā€™I find it truly astonishing that a chicken shop can run out of chicken as itā€™s something that theyā€™re internationally famous for.ā€

Amy Dunford-Swift, said: ā€˜ā€™I went to KFC the other day and was faced with the chicken shortage. I felt outraged and shocked that I wouldnā€™t be able to have my chicken wings for 99pā€™ā€™

Luckily for fried chicken fanatics, stores across Nottingham are beginning to re-open after a devastating few days. KFC listed the locations of the stores which were re-open, including stores in Alfreton Road and Milton Street.

However, other areas of Nottingham arenā€™t so lucky. Stores such as Clifton Lane and Hucknall Lane are still sadly suffering from the chicken shortage.
